Car production
‘UK car production in July saw favourable year-on-year growth of 10.1 per cent and continues the underlying trend of stabilisation’, said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Having weathered the storms of new model introductions, a number of key car-makers have increased output and given a renewed edge to passenger car manufacturing in Britain.’
Commercial vehicle production
‘Legislative distortions in the heavy truck arena seem to have settled and we are at last seeing signs of growth in large commercial vehicle production in the UK’, said Christopher Macgowan, SMMT chief executive. ‘Taking all CV output into consideration, the modest rise in volumes, if sustained over the second half of the year, should result in an annual total of some 215,000 units.’
