SMMT online webinar to focus on Scrappage Incentive Scheme

24 September 2009 #SMMT News

On the heels of its call for an extension to the UK Scrappage Incentive Scheme, SMMT is hosting the third in a series of free on-line conferences, presenting an opportunity to fully consider the impact the scheme has had on the motor industry.

The webinar, scheduled for 30 September 2009, from 14:00 to 14:30, will provide an overview of the Scrappage Incentive Scheme and its results, followed by a question and answer session.

SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt, will discuss how the scheme has given the automotive industry a much needed boost and highlight the environmental and safety benefits of new vehicles. To counter the likely negative impacts of a return to the higher rate of VAT and the introduction of the first year VED rates, SMMT recently called on government to extend the scrappage scheme through to the original close date of the end of February 2010.

Robert Baker, SMMT chief economist, will offer his views on the economic outlook and how the scrappage scheme could continue to have a positive impact on the UK market over the remainder of 2009 and next year. Robert will also discuss economic trends and provide an outlook of the UK automotive sector in 2010.
