SMMT webinar to discuss opportunities in the supply chain

SMMT’s next webinar will be held on Wednesday 16 December at 10:30 to discuss an SMMT report looking at opportunities for the UK supply base.

SMMT commissioned a study on the UK supply chain to help identify supply gaps in the UK automotive industry and potential opportunities for UK based suppliers. 
Compiled by AutoAnalysis, the study covers both current technology as well as the potential demand from low carbon and electric vehicles. The study isimportant for all companies operating in the sector. 
 
The report has detailed interviews with major vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers whose combined spend represents around €8bn.
 
Some key findings from the report include:
·         There is a genuine wish to source more from the UK.
·         Vehicle manufacturers are willing to consider new suppliers, even for the supply of established technologies.
·         Some of the major vehicle manufacturers are now in the process of finding potential new suppliers.
 
SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt, will chair the session and update participants on the efforts currently being undertaken to support the supply chain. Ian Henry, director of AutoAnalysis, will present the study findings and discuss the recommendations for SMMT and government to maximise current and future opportunities.
