Yesterday, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne visited Toyota Manufacturing UK’s Burnaston plant, where the Auris with Hybrid Synergy Drive is built.
Tony Walker, Deputy Manufacturing Director of Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK, said: “This visit represents a strong endorsement of our company’s UK operations, our low carbon manufacturing and environmental leadership and of our members’ commitment to building superior quality vehicles. The successful introduction of our Auris Hybrid model last summer has been an important milestone in a transition to low carbon manufacturing in the UK and for road transport generally.”
The visit coincides with the announcement that global cumulative sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles reached three million in February 2011, confirming Toyota’s continued hybrid leadership and further underpinning Toyota’s strategy of rolling out full hybrid technology across Toyota’s entire European model line-up by the early 2020s.
