For the second consecutive year Toyota Manufacturing UK has opened its doors to local schools as part of the governments pioneering initiative See inside Manufacturing.
Young people across Wales and Cheshire will get the opportunity to get behind the scenes at Toyota UK’s Engine Plant in Deeside, North Wales and experience modern manufacturing and the range of rewarding careers available in the manufacturing sector.
The event has proved to be very popular with over twice the number of students planning to attend this year. Over 300 students from schools and colleges across Wales and Cheshire will visit the plant throughout June and July. During their visit they will take part in a guided tour of the manufacturing plant including training facilities, casting plant and assembly lines. Students will hear presentations from apprentices, engineers and staff covering all aspects of engine manufacture. They will also take part in a number of ‘hands on’ workshops hosted by Toyota partners, Techniquest Glyndwr University and EDT.
Business Minister Mark Prisk said, “See Inside Manufacturing is about changing perceptions of modern manufacturing and showing young people, teachers and careers advisers that the industry offers interesting and rewarding job opportunities.
“I’m pleased that Toyota Manufacturing UK will be opening its doors to help represent the automotive sector, and dispel outdated perceptions of manufacturing. I encourage people to come along and see for themselves what exciting opportunities exist.”
Tony Walker, TMUK Deputy Managing Director, said,”The See Inside Manufacturing initiative will complement our existing activities aimed at engaging with young people and encouraging and inspiring them to be the next generation of engineers.”
Commenting on the initiative, Professor Michael Scott, Vice Chancellor of Glyndwr University “Glyndwr University is delighted to support the See inside manufacturing event. As a University, and through our subsidiary Techniquest Glyndwr, we focus on inspiring the scientists, mathematicians, engineers and technology experts of the future here in North Wales and the surrounding area.
“Developing these skills among our young people and showing them the opportunities a career in these fields can offer is essential to meeting employer demands, and this fantastic event is an excellent example of that work in action.
“Partnership working is at the core of our approach to leading economic development in the region, and we are particularly proud of our strong, mutually beneficial links with Toyota.”
