UK represented at ‘Our Future Mobility Now’ roundtable

Today, two UK representatives will attend the European ‘Our Future Mobility Now’ roundtable event on skills and innovation at the Solvay Library in Brussels. The event features CEOs from Europe’s leading automobile manufacturers as well as senior EU policymakers. The event is supported by the European Commission’s ‘Youth on the Move’ initiative, which is helping young people gain skills, experience and build careers.

The programme is packed with activities for both the young delegates, experts, the CEOs, European Commissioners and MEPs, divided over a whole day. From the UK, Jaguar Land Rover employees, Natalie Dowsett and Jo Schofield are set to meet a wealth of senior automotive executives that committed their attendance ahead of today’s meeting: Sergio Marchionne, CEO of FIAT S.p.A; Harrie Schippers, CEO of DAF Trucks N.V; Alfredo Altavilla, CEO of IVECO S.p.A; Didier Leroy, CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.

Joining these industry leaders and the 40 chosen students, graduates and young professionals, a number of leading European policy makers have committed to joining the roundtable including; Commissioners Connie Hedegaard, DG Climate Action; AntonioTajani, DG Enterprise & Industry; Lazlo Andor, DG Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion, Janez Potočnik, DG Environment; plus MEP Pablo Zalba Bidegain and Jorge Chatzimarkakis MEP and Libor Rouček MEP.

With an audience of 120 expected in the afternoon, the discussion looks set to build on the past successes of the ‘Our Future Mobility Now’ project.

Our Future Mobility Now
is an initiative managed by the automobile industry in Europe that was launched in June 2011, bringing together young people with industry leaders and policy makers. In keeping with the aims of the project, today’s roundtable on ‘Innovation for Europe, Skills for the Future’, discussions will focus particularly on young people’s attitudes on skills, innovation and mobility.
