Land Rover is celebrating its commitment to UK manufacturing and the domestic supply chain by exhibiting a selection of vehicles and components at SMMT’s headquarters in Westminster. Starting today and running for two weeks, the exhibition features the all-new Range Rover Sport, best-selling Range Rover Evoque and a number of UK-built components.
Unveiled to the public earlier this year, the all-new Range Rover Sport is the latest addition to the luxury vehicle manufacturer’s line-up. Blending unrivalled off-road capability and sporting prowess with ultimate luxury, the Sport is expected to build on its predecessors monumental success, which has sold more than 410,000 units globally since its launch in 2006.
The Range Rover Sport’s UK production secures 2,000 new jobs at the firm’s Solihull facility as well as 8,500 within the UK supply chain. The Solihull plant moved to three shifts last year and has benefited from a £370 million investment in all-aluminium production processes including a state-of-the-art aluminium bodyshop that produces panels for the Range Rover Sport.
Similarly, the Range Rover Evoque, which has sold more than 202,000 units globally since production began in 2011, allowed Land Rover to invest £230 million on facilities and £3 billion in the UK supply chain, from which it sources 50% of Evoque components.
To showcase Land Rover’s commitment to UK supply chain, it is also exhibiting the 3.0 litre diesel engine and the front and rear suspension assemblies that are used in the Range Rover Sport, all of which contain components that have been developed and produced in the UK.
