Volkswagen’s first pure electric production vehicle, the e-up! will be on display at the SMMT’s headquarters in Westminster from 17-28 February.
Based on the multi-award-winning up! city car, the e-up! produces zero tailpipe emissions and has a range of up to 93 miles. As well as achieving a top speed of 81mph, it easily keeps up with urban and suburban traffic, accelerating from 0-62mph in 12.4 seconds.
A full charge using a standard domestic three-pin socket takes less than nine hours, while a 3.6kW home charger – which is available free to e-up! customers from British Gas – enables charging in less than six hours. All e-up! models also have a DC fast-charging circuit as standard. Using the Combined Charging System (CCS), this enables a flat battery to be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Customers can also opt in to a green electricity package from Ecotricity, which means that when they recharge their car at home they are doing so using 100% green energy. They will also have access to more than 5,000 public charge points, a number of which are powered by Ecotricity.
The exhibition showcases Volkswagen’s commitment to its ‘Think Blue’ plan, which encourages environmentally sustainable practices in all aspects of vehicle manufacture, running and recycling.
The e-up! will be joined this summer by the fully electric e-Golf, while a plug-in hybrid Golf is due around six months after that.
