A new fact file of automotive industry facts has been produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders to shout about what makes the UK’s industry great.
With a total turnover of £59.3 billion, the UK automotive sector added £11.9 billion in value to the UK economy, employs 731,000 and produced 87,671 commercial vehicles in 2013.
Available to download as a pdf, or for tablet computers, the rerport highlights the seven commercial vehicle manufacturing sites as well as nine bus and coach factories, six design centres and 13 research and development locations there are in the UK.
Future prospects and growth are outlined in figures that show apprenticeship take-up has risen 39% over the past two years, and that £3 billion in unfulfilled demand is up for grabs for suppliers including the 18 of the 20 biggest global players that have a UK base.
The study also details how bus and coach account for 0.3% of the parc on the roads, at 90,355 vehicles, while vans take up a 10.2% share of the 35,760,901 total at 3,631,595. Trucks account for 1.6% of the parc at 557,128 vehicles.
