In an exhibition at its Westminster headquarters, SMMT is marking the start of the 2014 CV Show, which opens its doors this Tuesday, 29 April at the NEC in Birmingham. The display sees commercial vehicle manufacturers, and CV Show stars, Citroen, Ford and Mercedes, showing vehicles in the SMMT showroom.
The CV Show is the largest and most comprehensive road transport event in the UK, with more than 450 exhibitors attracting over 18,000 visitors over a three day period. Major brands exhibiting at this year’s Show include Fiat, Iveco, MAN, Nissan and Vauxhall, which will be unveiling its all-new UK-built Vivaro van.
More than 60 SMMT members are exhibiting at the CV Show, taking up over a third of the total exhibition space, including SMMT (hall 4/ stand 4G50) . Of the Show’s top 20 exhibitors, 16 are represented by SMMT.
On display in the SMMT showroom is the UK’s most-registered small van (under 2.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight), the Citroen Berlingo. Offered with six powertrains, including a diesel hybrid and pure electric and boasting a load capacity of up to 4.1m3 and a maximum payload of 896kg, the Berlingo’s combination efficiency and capability makes it a popular choice for operators of both small and large fleets.
The CV Show sees the global debut of the Citroen Relay (hall 5/stand D40), which goes on sale in the third quarter of 2014, offered in a wide range of panel vans, chassis cabs, chassis crew cab and back-to-back cabs.
UK light commercial vehicle market leaders, Ford, will display a full range of products at the CV Show, following the competition of its brand refresh, which commenced in 2011. The main attraction on its stand (hall
4/stand 5G10) is the new two-tonne Transit, which will also be available to test drive at the Show.
Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre is a global centre of excellence for the brand’s development of engines and commercial vehicles. Housing a design centre and extensive R&D facilities, Dunton is responsible for ensuring the design, quality and efficiency of many Ford CVs built and sold around the world. Ford is displaying the Tourneo Connect in SMMT’s showroom.
The Mercedes-Benz Citan small van will also be on show at SMMT, a vehicle which the manufacturer claims has the performance of a giant and the thirst of a sparrow. With the BLUEEFFICIENCY model claiming a combined fuel consumption of 65.7 mpg and CO2 emissions of 112g/km, the Citan is one of the most efficient vehicles in
its class.
At the CV Show, Mercedes-Benz (hall 4/ stand 5D10) will be showing a full model line-up including the Sprinter van, which features a Euro-6 Bluetec engine, making it one of the first Euro-6 engined vans. The Sprinter also boasts one of the industry’s broadest arrays of safety systems, including lane support and collision protection technologies.
