News from Volvo: Norfolk Environmental Waste Services, a subsidiary of Norse Commercial Services, has taken delivery of six Boughton hook-loader equipped Volvo FM eight-wheelers to assist in servicing the 19 household waste recycling centres under contract with Norfolk County Council.  A further two Boughton close coupled trailers have been purchased to further improve the efficiency of the fleet within this new contract.

The hook loader systems all feature the company’s patented Kwikova automatic container sheeting system, rear combi-locks, rear axle stabilisers – and VBG couplings.  The tri-axle close coupled trailers feature a retractable drawbar and hydraulic legs and locks. The Norse fleet already includes other Boughton equipped vehicles, some of which have been in service for more than 12 years. The new Volvo FM chassis are rated for operation at 32 tonnes GVW and 44-tonnes GTW, while the power comes from the 420bhp version of Volvo’s 13-litre Euro V SCR six-cylinder engine, driving through the i-Shift fully automatic gearbox, with a fitted gearbox mounted PTO

Norse Transport Manager John Mellor says, “We have had very good experience of utilising both Boughton and Volvo within our existing fleet and that underlined our confidence for the new purchase to meet the demands of this major new contract.”

Operational Contracts Manager David Lake said, “It is imperative that is able to demonstrate efficient fleet management, improved environmental performance and therefore best value to Norfolk County Council within the servicing of this new contract.”
