Hendrickson is giving the sector the first look at the next generation of mid lift axle at the CV Show.
The preview will see the axle manufacturer display its second generation technology at the Sshow, while releasing details about the next-gen axle set for its grand unveiling at Hanover later in the year.
The new axle will see a weight saving of 63kg across the wheel-size ranges, representing up to a 250kg saving on standard axles, which has been designed with Euro-6 emission targets in mind.
Mark Page, European Managing Director for Hendrickson, says the keys to this remarkable achievement is the use of the very latest design analysis and testing tools combined with a detailed review of materials specifications and an undisclosed ‘revolutionary’ manufacturing process.
“Our design centre operates CAD systems with the same capability and level of expertise as the major vehicle manufacturers,” he added.
“As well as allowing us to work closely with truck builders worldwide, this gives us the ability to break new ground in product innovation. Validation to full OE durability requirements is carried out in our own laboratories, using statistical techniques to compress an entire lifetime of heavy use into a few months of testing.”
The current mid lift axle (MLA) technology provided by Hendrickson can help fleets increase fuel economy and reduce tyre wear, and it also has lowered the unsprung weight by 200kg eliminating the need for a second-steer axle.
All configurations of the axle are developed with integral airsprings for driver comfort as well as protecting the vehicle, and are suitable for 44 tonne, six axle applications.
Page added, “This has given us confidence to invest in a new generation of MLA that we believe will provide an outstanding return on investment for operators and welcome engineering benefits for truck manufacturers.”
