News from DAF: The fleet management company, Translease Services Limited, has used its experience of the builders’ merchants sector to develop a new, smaller, more versatile truck for making deliveries and driving in busy city traffic conditions.

Using an economical new DAF LF220 Euro-6 cab fitted with a dropside body from Dover-based Charlton Bodies that’s the same width as the cab, a Fassi crane and the latest high-tech cameras and side scanners by Brigade Electronics, means it is more compact to drive in city conditions, is fully equipped to offer better visibility of other road users and meets all Transport for London’s safety standards. It also has Euro-6 compliant emissions to meet the restrictions of the latest low emissions zone.

Its 16 tonne chassis makes it lower and narrower than a typical, larger 18 tonne unit yet still offers a substantial payload of over eight tonnes.

The DAF cab has also been specified with air conditioning and mirror protectors, and has had a rear window fitted to it for better rearwards visibility. Other practical design features included on this new model are mud flaps that automatically lift when reverse gear is engaged to stop them being ripped off if on soft ground and a ratchet strap bar under the body to meet the latest legal requirements.

Translease’s Tim Scott said, “We’ve worked closely with some of our most trusted suppliers to develop a versatile, high quality vehicle with a bespoke design and specification for builders merchants. We have already had a lot of interest in the vehicle, and look forward to demonstrating how much easier it is to drive in today’s typical busy traffic conditions.”
