Purpose of the Post:
- To oversee the International team and help deliver a programme of international activities which offer maximum business benefit to SMMT, SMMT members, and the UK automotive industry
- To promote and improve the reputation of the Society to ensure it maintains a highly respected and visible public profile on behalf of the industry abroad.
- To develop an international network of stakeholders to maximise the opportunities for UK automotive business abroad
Qualifications/Skills/Attributes required:
- Practical business management experience, including control of projects, finances, budgets and staff
- Hands-on knowledge of international business development.
- Ability to understand and interpret business needs.
- Record of devising and delivering successful projects
- Ability to develop working relationships at all levels, across a range of international business cultures
- Clear and concise presentational skills, both written and oral.
- Confident and effective public speaker
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to handle conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
- Personal commitment and integrity
- Automotive industry knowledge an advantage
- Basic computer skills (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Excel)
- Foreign languages an advantage
Main duties include:
- Planning and delivering a viable programme of international business development activities
- Meeting team financial targets.
- Overseeing the day to day operations of the international team within clearly defined work programmes
- Day to day management of the International team including objective setting and performance reviews.
- Promoting the UK automotive industry in markets around the world
- Developing and maintaining close links with government and industry contacts in key global markets
- Developing and maintaining good relations with DTI, FCO, UKTI and other government and regional agencies
- Maximising government/regional funding to support international business development projects for the automotive industry
- Maintaining market expertise in designated geographical region and delivering business programmes in that region
- Co-ordinating International Committee
- Writing and disseminating International Bulletin
- Deputising for colleagues as required
- Building relationships with UK companies, to understand and promote their international business requirements
- Arranging, promoting and delivering international events including trade show groups and inward and outward seminar and trade missions
- Developing in-depth knowledge of specific overseas markets and/or industry sectors, through market visits and close contacts with government, local industry and trade associations overseas
- Collection and dissemination of market data/intelligence, including active pursuit of good business leads
- Devising and implementing coherent strategies for nominated markets
- Organisation of programme and leadership of activities to nominated markets and/or exhibitions
- Contributing fully to all departmental reports, publications, presentations and discussion groups
- Identification and exploitation of new commercial opportunities for SMMT Ltd
