News from Edbro: To support the continued growth of its ‘muckaway’ and aggregate transport business, L. Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage is investing in over 83 new tipper and grab vehicles in 2014.
The majority of these vehicles will be located at the company’s revolutionary new rail hub; designed for transporting excavated soil out of London. Thanks to their reputation for long-term reliability and safety, L. Lynch has specified hydraulic tipping cylinders from the JOST brand, Edbro, for all of the new vehicles.
In response to the increasing workload coming from London, it recognised the need to consider new ways of hauling excavated soil out of the capital, in order to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce the number of road miles that its vehicles were subjected to. Its solution, to utilise a rail hub in central London and send the material out of the city by train, was a first in London and has reduced the company’s CO2 emissions by 70% whilst speeding up the ‘muckaway’ turnaround times.
During the first year of operation the rail hub handled over 200,000 tonnes of muck, the equivalent of 17,000 full lorries which would otherwise have been on London’s congested roads. However, L. Lynch is now one of the main muck away and aggregate suppliers for the prestigious Crossrail project. This project alone is likely to increase the amount of muck that moves through the hub in 2014 to 500,000 tonnes.
With such an increased workload, L. Lynch has decided to specify 83 new tippers and grab trucks – the majority of which will be stationed at the rail hub. While the vehicles themselves will be a combination of Volvos and Renaults, there is one constant throughout the new fleet: they will all be specified with Edbro tipping cylinders.
Merrill Lynch, the company’s Operations Director, added, “The rail hub is an essential part of our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to offer our customers the most efficient, reliable and cost effective service possible. The fact that we are now expanding our fleet to keep up with increasing demand reflects our confidence in the growing construction industry in the UK.
“Our customers expect the highest standards of equipment and support in an environment where health and safety are paramount. With this latest investment we are again specifying Edbro tipping gear. We recognise Edbro’s reputation for manufacturing tipping gear which offers the highest safety standards, the best payload possibilities and the industry’s leading reliability record.”
The tipper vehicles have all been specified with CX14, combined ram and tank units which are proven to be the lightest, like-for-like cylinder on the market. The cylinders offer a weight saving of 86kg against the previous industry benchmark, which translates to approximately £10,000 in extra payload over the life of the vehicle. The grab vehicles have all been fitted with TS Series under floor tippers which produce 20 percent more lift capacity than the closest alternative.
Edbro is a leading brand within the JOST range of components for commercial vehicles. All of its cylinders are designed and manufactured in its state-of-the-art facilities in Bolton. Prior to release, all Edbro cylinders are put through their paces in Edbro’s in-house test centre, as well as being subjected to field tests. It’s this dedication to quality that allows Edbro to deliver each of its cylinders with a ‘Fit and Forget’ reliability promise.
