News from MAN: Domestic removals specialist, George Lambert & Son in Fernhurst, West Sussex, has taken delivery of a TGL 10.220 4×2 rigid with a 42 cubic metre body complete with a two-bunk ‘top-pod’ designed, manufactured and fitted by Unique Van Bodies of Warrington. The new truck joins two existing MANs – a nine- and a 14-year-old MAN L2000.

“We’ve used MANs for 20 years,” said Managing Director, Neal Lambert, “and we have always enjoyed outstanding reliability – the product quality is second-to-none. And so is the aftersales support; we’ve had great back-up from Harwoods Truck Centre in Southampton and that same high level of service extends to the European mainland where we often operate. Overall, the professionalism and support from MAN in acquiring this truck has been nothing short of excellent”

Based on MAN’s factory ‘L’ sleeper cab, Unique Van Bodies has designed and fitted a spacious top-pod to provide space for an additional two bunks, allowing for three-man overnight operations.

Despite the age of Lamberts’ existing MAN vehicles, mileage remains low – 185,000 miles and 320,000 in the nine- and 14-year-olds respectively – with the company adopting a high engine power policy. Lambert added, “A higher-than-required engine rating means less wear and tear and so it’s proved. Our trucks do low mileage, but they never miss a beat, and they’ll be good for another 10 years.

“A bigger engine means lower revs,” he added, “and that means fuel savings. Our new Euro-6 10-tonne MAN is regularly giving us 15.0mpg; a full mile-per-gallon better than other recent trucks in our fleet.”

Lamberts has proud 95-year history, successfully managed in turn by grandfather, father and, latterly, by son, Neal. Today, the company boasts nationwide and overseas operations and benefits from a new, purpose-built 12,500sq.ft. container storage  facility in Fernhurst.
