News from Mercedes-Benz: So impressed was Tor Multimix with its first two new Mercedes-Benz Arocs construction chassis that it promptly returned for a couple more.

The Glastonbury-based operator supplies ready-mixed concrete, floor screeds and aggregates to customers throughout Somerset and the surrounding areas.

Tor Multimix was founded in 2002 with a single vehicle by husband-and-wife team Dean and Michelle Gardener, together with Dean’s father Alan, who is now semi-retired.

Today, it runs 11 trucks, ranging in size from 7.5 to 32 tonnes, all wear three-pointed stars with the exceptions of a pair of 7.5 tonne Fuso Canter tippers.

Michelle Gardener said, “The first vehicles we ever bought were by Mercedes-Benz and we have remained loyal to the brand and the dealer ever since.”

Tor Multimix’s first Euro-6 vehicles are both 6×4 Arocs 2633 models with 326 hp engines driving through Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.

One is fitted with a 6m3 mixer drum by McPhee Bros, while the other has a Thompsons Sandmaster alumnium tipping body, its lightweight contributing to a competitive payload capacity of just under 16 tonnes. The mixer replaces a vehicle that has been stood, while the tipper represents an extension to the fleet.

Both Arocs are the subject of seven-year Mercedes-Benz Repair and Maintenance Contracts. They are being inspected and serviced at Rygor’s Chilcompton depot, with the work undertaken at night to minimise inconvenience to the operator.

“We’re very pleased with these new 26-tonners,” added Michelle. “They’ve been well received by the drivers, who particularly like the smooth-changing automated transmissions, and I’m confident they’ll prove to be every bit as reliable and cost-effective to operate as our previous Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

“The Arocs looks fantastic too. Our trucks are on the road all day and double as mobile advertisements for the business, which is why Dean is very particular about ensuring they’re always clean and well maintained.”

Rygor Truck Sales Executive Marcus Cahalin has now taken an order from Tor Multimix for two more Mercedes-Benz Arocs, both of which are scheduled for delivery next spring – one will be another 6×4 mixer, the other an 8×4 tipper.

Michelle said, “We receive great service from the team at Rygor, Chilcompton. The dealer maintains our vehicles during the evenings and at weekends, so they’re always available for work when we need them.”
