News from Tibbett Logistics: Romania’s largest privately owned contract logistics specialist, Tibbett Logistics reports that it has nearly quadrupled the scale of its automotive logistics operations in Bucharest over the past five years. Automotive operations now cover some 11,500 sq metres (124,000 sq ft) of warehousing in the city alone.

Since relocating its nascent automotive logistics operations to a 32,000sqft distribution centre at Equest Park, Bucharest in 2009, Tibbett Logistics has been steadily growing these activities, and it now employs a total of 350 people.

This month sees the addition of a further 21,500sqft of warehousing to accommodate new VMI (vendor managed inventory) operations for its world-renowned automotive component manufacturing customer. These include managing the inbound flow of components from Asian suppliers, receiving and sorting product, quality inspection and the scheduling of deliveries into the client’s Bucharest factory. A number of overseas suppliers are also establishing their offices within the Tibbett facility. The company already provides other added-value services, such as finished product inspection and supplier- and customer-specific packing/containerisation.

Tibbett Logistics’ customer is one of the world’s largest producers of turbochargers and turbo technologies for commercial, passenger and private vehicles. As well as managing its external warehouse, the logistics specialist also operates the factory warehouse inside its Bucharest plant. Here it controls the flow of components on to the assembly line, as well as the retrieval of finished goods for transport to the external warehouse and ultimate delivery to vehicle production plants across Europe and worldwide.

Tibbett Logistics is also responsible for scheduling the delivery of components to a manufacturing plant in Slovakia for the same customer.

As well as these automotive logistics operations in Bucharest, Tibbett Logistics also operates automotive warehousing for other major customers in Hunedoara County in the centre of Romania, and in Arad in the west of the country. In addition it handles the collection of merchandise from automotive factories across Romania and their consolidation in Arad before onward shipment by FTL (full truckload) services to Slovakia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

David Goldsborough, CEO of Tibbett Logistics, commented, “We have quietly and consistently built on our success, so that – with further projects in the pipeline – the automotive sector is now rapidly catching up with retail/FMCG in terms of scale within our portfolio of contract logistics operations in South East Europe.”

Tibbett Logistics provides intermodal logistics and extensive supply chain management services to the automotive, textiles, retail and other FMCG sectors across Romania and elsewhere in South East Europe.  As well as operating over 80,000 sq metres (860,000 sq ft) of warehousing, the company has a distribution fleet comprising tilt trailers, double- and triple-chamber reefers and container chassis – along with its own intermodal rail wagons.
