Volkswagen, Ford, Citroën and Peugeot all registered strong commercial vehicles sales figures for September.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles continued its record-breaking 2014 by registering a total of 5,519 light commercial vehicles in September – up 4.6% on the same period in 2013 – with the Transporter and Caddy leading the way.

Carl zu Dohna, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said, ‘These strong results demonstrate the incredible momentum we are enjoying in the UK.

Demand for our products remains at an all-time high. Not just because of its outstanding quality, but also because of its cast iron residual values and outstanding aftersales and fleet support provided from our dedicated Van Centre network.’

Meanwhile, Ford set a new sales record in September with 15,503 commercial vehicle registrations, sealing a market share of 28.3%.

Figures released by the SMMT showed a total of 13,959 vehicles from the Transit family were sold. This placed the Transit second in its UK total vehicle sales, behind only the UK’s perennial favourite, the Ford Fiesta.

Mark Ovenden, Chairman of Ford of Britain, said, “In the high volume September sales month, Ford beat the overall UK market volume increase and maintained its strong sales momentum to secure record sales.

Citroën increased its LCV sales by 16.8% compared with the same period last year. Citroën’s LCV performance has been boosted by the launch of the New Relay range and the continuing strong performance from the Berlingo.

It saw 4,472 vans registered, moving it up to 4th in the up to 3.5 tonne sector. All four Citroën LCV model ranges performed well, both in September and through the first three quarters of the year:

Jeremy Smith, Citroën’s Head of Commercial Vehicles & Business Sector Operations, said, “Citroën is delighted to have delivered such a strong LCV sales performance through the first nine months of 2014. We have achieved this with a well-proven and respected range of vehicles. In spite of a large number of new LCV launches by our competitors, we continue to achieve strong sales growth by concentrating on sectors where quality, reliability, network service and low cost of operation are key customer requirements.”

Demand across Peugeot’s popular and practical LCV range is also very strong. Including the Bipper, Partner, Expert and Boxer families, after selling 24,452 units YTD. Compared to just 16,282 last year, it’s an impressive increase of more than 50%.
