News from TomTom: One of the UK’s largest providers of housing maintenance and refurbishment services, Axis, has increased average MPG across its fleet by 20% using TomTom Telematics’ Webfleet system.

The increase from 33mpg to 39mpg across the company’s 241 vehicles was achieved in just five months, using driver behaviour monitoring tools to underpin a performance improvement programme. The move has helped cut fuel expenditure and reduce both servicing and maintenance costs.

“This is a massive achievement for us in such a short time,” said Helen Craig, Head of Sustainability and Facilities at Axis Europe.

“Without TomTom Webfleet we wouldn’t be able to measure our success so accurately due to the ever-changing nature of our stock. We have already exceeded our five per cent improvement target for the year.”

An OptiDrive indicator combines fuel efficiency information with speeding, idling, harsh steering and braking data, and scores drivers out of 10 in a column stack chart. These scores have been used by Axis to create league tables to motivate operatives to drive more carefully.

The technology has also helped Axis respond faster to urgent requests for assistance, improving its customer service.

“This is another strong example of the tangible benefits of the Webfleet solution for service providers with large fleets,” added Giles Margerison, Director of TomTom Telematics.

“As well as the obvious fuel and CO2 savings, the technology also means repair, maintenance and customer service personnel have instant access to the crucial data needed to exceed customer expectations.”
