News from Renault: In a significant conquest deal, Eaton Transport has swapped its 20-year allegiance with DAF in favour of Renault Trucks. The St Neots-based haulage business switched to Renault Trucks following a recommendation from its customer, DS Smith, and the resulting successful trial.

The 44-tonne range T460 6×2, supplied by Renault Trucks Chiltern, joined the four-strong DAF fleet in September.

Servicing Eaton Transport’s contract with DS Smith, a leading corrugated packaging provider in Europe, the new Range T delivers corrugated board to customers across the UK and collects recycling to take to Kemsley Mill, Kent.

Owner and Manager of Eaton Transport, Steve Eaton, says, “I’ve been using DAFs since the 1990s but following a recommendation from our customer DS Smith I decided to have a look at the new Renault Range T at the East of England Show. I was very impressed by the size of the Range T’s interior and it looked like it offered the same level of driver comfort as my DAFs, at a more competitive price.”

Eaton adds, “We went on to give the Range T a trial and the driver liked it so much that he didn’t want to get out of the cab! He was impressed by the overall drivability, the amount of space in the cab and commented that it was very smooth to drive compared to the DAFs in our fleet.  On the basis of this trial I ordered a Range T. The vehicle has only been on the road for a few weeks but I am very happy so far. It immediately matched the mpg figures on the well run-in DAFs, and the trial vehicle showed a 10% improvement, so we expect ours to match this once bedded in.”

Eaton Transport is based in St Neots in Cambridgeshire and is a family-run haulage company. Originally set up in 1976, the company went Limited in 1982 and is now focusing its business on subcontracting for DS Smith PLC.
