Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has delivered a converted Amarok ambulance to the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
EMAS is responsible for an area of 4.8 million people and 6,425 square miles, some of which features the most remote and challenging roads in England. The bespoke vehicle will help reach stricken individuals in such locations.
In addition to the Amarok’s standard features, such as four-wheel-drive and the ability to travel through water up to 500mm deep, the ambulance is equipped with life-saving equipment and a load area designed to allow safe patient transportation.
Calling it a “pioneering” project, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Head of Fleet, Chris Black, said, “The specification of this vehicle went way beyond just ordering one of our ‘Engineered For You’ vehicles from the factory.
“Now in service, the vehicle is beginning to receive a great deal of interest and I am sure we can expect to see similar Amarok ambulances in the future.”
