Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed the fourth generation of its Caddy urban delivery van.

The introduction of new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel Euro-6 engines provide reduced emissions and fuel consumption, with the Caddy Blue Motion panel van offering more than 70mpg.

The Caddy now comes with new driver assistance systems that improve safety. One of these is the ‘Front Assist’ surroundings monitoring system and its City Emergency Braking technology, which automatically applies the brakes if the driver fails to see an obstacle at speeds of up to 19mph.

In a first for the Caddy, the fourth-generation model now comes with the option of Adaptive Cruise Control, which monitors the road ahead and slows the vehicle down when approaching traffic jams, all the way to a complete stop if necessary.

Volkswagen describes the styling of the new Caddy as an “evolution” of the previous model, which has recorded more than 1.5 million sales globally in its 11 years on the market. There are sharper folds and clearly defined surfaces, while the interior follows this pattern with striking decorative trims and a new generation of infotainment equipment.

The new Caddy will be launched in Germany at the end of June, and arrives in the UK later in the year.
