Cambridgeshire-based haulier Williams Transport has ordered a fleet of 10 Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545 tractor units after testing one for six months.
The impressive fuel efficiency of the Actros 2545 was the key factor in Williams Transport’s decision to expand its order from Mercedes-Benz.
“That first truck averaged 8.25mpg,” says Director Andy Williams. “That may not sound a lot, but in our job it’s very good indeed, and a full mile per gallon better than the truck it replaced.”
Williams’ new vehicles have been fitted with flat-floored BigSpace cabs and are powered by 449bhp straight-six engines, driven through Mercedes PowerShift 3 auto transmission.
“The Actros looked great and we could see that the Mercedes-Benz build quality was extremely high,” adds Williams. “Our drivers are typically out for four or five nights a week, so we like to give them comfortable, high-quality vehicles – we also specified factory-fitted fridges in the cabs.”
The new Actros vehicles will join Williams Transport’s 65-strong fleet of trucks, which work across the south east.
