Bus and coach registrations increased for the third month in a row in March, rising by 15%, according to figures from the SMMT.
There was significant growth for both purpose-built buses and coaches, with operators having invested in new vehicles following the March plate change.
Registrations of purpose-built buses rose 111.2% to 340 units in March, while purpose-built coaches rose 36% to 223 units.
Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, commented on the figures, “As the third consecutive month of growth, March’s 15% increase is a positive sign for the future of the bus and coach sector.
“Continued economic confidence has driven a 73.2% boom in both purpose-built markets, as operators update their fleets and take advantage of March’s number plate change.”
