Output was stable in UK engine manufacturing in March with 230,634 units built, representing a 0.3% year-on-year increase.

It was a particularly positive month for British engine exports, with overall demand up by 2.7% to 152,505 units. Home production was down 4.1% to 788,129 units.

The outlook for the sector continues to look bright with a series of investments set to be realised throughout the coming year.

“Engine manufacturing has seen a stable first quarter, and the outlook for the sector is very positive,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive. “UK manufacturers have committed major investments into building the next generation of low emission Euro-6 engines, and with these set to come to fruition this year, we expect output to accelerate in the coming months.”
