Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has supplied a variety of models to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service for emergency services work.

The vehicles joining the Service include Crafter, Transporter and Caddy models. The service has, to date, bought around 70 Volkswagen vans, including the Caddy Maxi Kombi that offers seating for five and a large load capacity.

Reliability and exceptional whole-life costs were the key aspects that appealed to Glynn Richardson, Fleet Controller at West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

“We rely on our fleet 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year,” said Richardson. “Volkswagen offers a versatile range of vehicles that provide excellent durability and reliability, which ensures the whole-life costs of the vehicles are kept to a minimum.”

The fire and rescue service provides emergency cover for more than 200 million people across 800 square miles of the West Yorkshire countryside. And not just for fires, either. Road, rail or air crashes, floods and chemical spills are just some of the challenges that will face the team and the new additions to its fleet.
