CLOCS campaign has 100 industry champions

The Construction Logistics and Cyclist Safety (CLOCS) initiative to improve the safety of vulnerable road users now has 100 champions two years after launch.

CLOCS focuses on three areas to reduce the risk of construction vehicles colliding with cyclists and pedestrians: improving vehicle safety; addressing the imbalance between the treatment of on-site and on-road safety; and encouraging wider adoption of best practice across the industry in a common national standard.

CLOCS champions are organisations and construction projects which have committed to implement standards within their organisations and across their supply chains.

The growing list comprises fleet operators, construction clients and developers, as well as organisations that, based on the nature of their business, cannot actively implement the standard but support its application and purpose.

Current champions include Thames Tideway Tunnel, Travis Perkins, the London Borough of Camden and Skanska among others.

CLOCS Project Director John Hix said, “There has been a huge response from the construction industry, demonstrated by so many companies of all sizes embracing the initiative and making a true commitment to change.

“As we pass the 100 champions mark, we encourage operators nationwide to look at the impact this work is already having. Talking to us and the other existing champions about improving on-road safety could be beneficial for not just other road users but also their staff and businesses.”
