The paint shop is the single largest energy user in a vehicle manufacturing site, in particular the use of heat to dry the paint. Rather than use the main boilers in the summer, Bentley used a temporary summer boiler which was more appropriate in size for the reduced load needed in the warmer ambient temperatures.
This resulted in a 420,000kWh saving in gas use, equivalent to 913tCO2. The project proved so successful Bentley will repeat the exercise in 2015.
