Honda solar-powered hydrogen station launched

30 June 2015 #Sustainability Case studies

The UK’s first commercial scale solar-powered hydrogen production and refuelling facility was launched in 2014, developed at Honda of the UK Manufacturing, with a consortium including BOC, Briggs and Swindon Borough Council. The station will produce commercial volumes of ‘green’ hydrogen from solar power. The new facility has been integrated into the existing hydrogen refuelling station, which opened in 2011.

It is intended to be a benchmark for other refuelling stations, to reinforce the UK’s attractiveness as a location for vehicle manufacturers to roll out fuel cell vehicles and encourage the growth of a national refuelling infrastructure. In addition to the existing station, there is also a fuelling point on the site for forklift trucks used in the factory and a number of vans which have been converted to run on a diesel/hydrogen mix.
