Scania has been announced as the winner of the Low Carbon Heavy Duty Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year at the 2014-2015 Low Carbon Champions Awards.
Organised by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, the annual awards showcase vehicle manufacturers who drive innovation and demonstrate dynamic progress in reducing road transport emissions.
In awarding the prize to Scania, the judges recognised the company’s contribution as “an exciting example of a vibrant and innovative low carbon road transport sector in the UK that is going from strength to strength.”
Special mention was made of Scania’s gas-powered trucks and buses, in particular the “Poo Bus” biogas-powered bus demonstrator which has attracted the attention of the UK’s national media.
“We are naturally delighted to collect this award,” said Claes Jacobsson, Managing Director of Scania (Great Britain) Limited.
“The environment has long been a high priority for Scania’s research and development engineers and today the fruits of their labours are clearly apparent; our biogas-powered vehicles, for example, are capable of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 98% compared to traditionally-fuelled vehicles.”
