Iveco has taken an order for 250 of its Stralis NP heavy trucks which will feature the newly-launched Cursor 454bhp natural gas engine.
The new Stralis NP 460 is the first natural gas truck designed for heavy long-haul duties, and is fitted with the most powerful pure gas engine on the market. The Cursor 13 NP unit was engineered by FPT Industrial and has been awarded two patents for its innovative design.. The double Liquefied Natural Gas tank allows a potential range of up to 1,600 kilometers (994 miles).
The order was placed by the European transport logistics operator Jacky Perrenot Group, in addition to a previous order placed in June last year for 250 Stralis NP 400. Iveco and Jacky Perrenot Group have a commercial relationship spanning 40 years and share the target of a fleet containing 1,000 natural gas trucks by 2020.
Pierre Lahutte, IVECO Brand President, stated, “Gas is the most mature, versatile and affordable solution to replace diesel in the city and on the highway. More than the fuel of tomorrow, it is above all the fuel of today. That’s why we strive to offer ever more efficient vehicles that respect the environment. By choosing our new Stralis NP 460, Jacky Perrenot demonstrates the potential of natural gas and biomethane as an immediate alternative for freight transport.”
