Leyland Trucks has won the Partnership with Education Award at The Manufacturer MX Awards.

Leyland Trucks was presented with the prize for its work supporting primary, secondary and further education programmes across Lancashire.

The judges commended the Lancashire-based firm for its extensive school-outreach programme, designed to promote STEM subjects (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) with children from primary school age through to University undergraduates. Leyland was also praised for its links with higher education, with its ongoing partnership with Preston’s College and the creation of an industry partnership with the institution.

This year, Leyland Trucks hosted 41 visits from secondary schools and sixth form colleges enabling over 1,000 students to visit the site, while the number of primary-age children visiting the site has increased by 45 percent. A number of primary schools have used the opportunity to their visit with the Technical Knowledge element of Design and Technology in Key Stage 1.

Ivan Shearer, HR Director at Leyland Trucks, said, “We are honoured to have been presented with this award. Supporting education is very important to Leyland Trucks, not only to provide continued development for our employees but to engage with those still in education and to help maintain the rich engineering heritage of our region.”
