Spark EV Technology is aiming to end range anxiety for transport managers running electric vehicles thanks to a new telematics system.
The Spark EV software uses artificial intelligence-based prediction to give drivers and transport managers to increase the number of journeys possible between charges by 20%, a gain of 2.8 journeys per day according to the firm.
The system incorporates data from sensors and cloud-based machine learning, and links to smartphones to analyse data from the driver, vehicle and outside factors such as weather and congestion. Drivers or managers can enter their journey into the Spark EV software remotely or from base and it will advise whether the journey can be completed based on live data, previous trips and the availability of charging points. The software also incorporates a learning algorithm to increase accuracy over time.
“Fleet managers understand that the future increasingly revolves around electric vehicles, due to new legislation coming into force around the world, a move away from diesel and rapid growth in EV sales,” said Justin Ott, CEO, Spark EV Technology. “However, existing methods of predicting range between charges are not accurate enough for fleet use, leading to range anxiety and a consequent drop in productivity as managers cut back the number of journeys to avoid potentially running out of power.”
Spark EV is available via a monthly subscription and can be accessed via smartphone app, website or existing fleet management software, with a standalone option available for smaller fleets.
