Mercedes-Benz is to exhibit two new camper van concepts based on the X-Class pickup.

At the Caravan, Motor, Touristik (CMT) show, a demountable cabin from bodybuilder Tischer will be displayed as well as a conversion concept with integrated kitchen system by VanEssa mobilcamping. Mercedes-Benz will also showcase the complete Marco Polo range of vehicles. This includes the Marco Polo travel van and the recreational ACTIVITY and HORIZON.

The Tischer concept features a sleeping alcove offering 150cm of width, close to two metres of headroom and a kitchen with a three-burner gas stove and seating for three, with the latter convertible into a second sleeping area. The integrated bathroom unit also offers enough space to take a shower, all within the demountable construction.

VanEssa’s mobilcamping concept is a 250kg heavy-duty module with a fully-equipped kitchen with coolbox, cooking and washing-up facilities and has a teak wood cover for the load compartment, chosen for its strength and water-resistance. A second pull-out module offers further space for its occupants.

The concepts are based on the standard version of the recently-launched X-Class pickup, which is designed to blend the toughness and utility of a conventional pickup with the comfort and luxury of a Mercedes. It features coil springs front and rear and can be ordered with rear- or four-wheel-drive.

“It is important to us that our vehicles appeal to camper van bodybuilders as well, of course, to end customers. The X-Class fits seamlessly into our established product range. We are proud to introduce first camper van solution approaches together with Tischer and VanEssa at the CMT, just two months after the vehicle’s launch”, says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
