DAF Trucks has announced the second running of its Transport Efficiency Driver Challenge with the aim of crowning the UK’s best commercial vehicle driver.

Following the success of the first Challenge in 2016, DAF has announced the details of the entry process for the 2018 event. Also open to non-DAF drivers, entrants can nominate themselves or others and must complete an online questionnaire at www.daf.co.uk/thechallenge, which opened on Monday 12th February. To enter, drivers must hold a clean C+E Licence, a Driver Card and a Driver CPC.

From the online entries, 20 candidates will be carefully selected and invited to attend an all-expenses paid two-day live final at the Millbrook Proving Ground in Befordshire in May. In a number of demanding practical tests, candidates will demonstrate their driving skills and knowledge through assessments on driving style, performance and efficiency across different truck sizes and under differing driving conditions. Road and vehicle knowledge, legislation, defect reporting and pre-use checks will also come under close scrutiny.

The winner will be crowned DAF Transport Efficiency Driver Challenge Champion 2018, following in the footsteps of 2016 winner Paul Barlow of Severn Trent Water. Following his win, Steve said, “I knew it was going to be tough, but I didn’t expect it to be quite so comprehensive – every aspect of the job came under scrutiny. DAF Trucks’ organisers weren’t joking when they said they wanted to find someone with the whole package.”
