National Bus Strategy next vital step towards net zero

06 February 2020 #Uncategorised

Today’s announcement from government of additional funding for buses is welcome news for what has been an often overlooked sector. Driving the uptake of electric buses is key to delivering air quality and climate change goals. However, to ensure all towns and cities can benefit from the fast and dramatic improvements to local air quality these vehicles are proven to deliver, more needs to be done.

This is why we are calling for a long-term, joined-up approach to bus funding and renewal. The National Bus Strategy led by government needs collaboration with local authorities and industry, so that people in every region are able to enjoy the cleanest, most efficient and user-friendly bus services. We need a framework that can help ensure greater coordination of bus policy across central and local government and helps deliver long-term stability.

If the UK is to lead the global zero emissions agenda, we need a competitive marketplace and a competitive business environment to encourage manufacturers to sell and build here. Buses should be at the heart of this transition.
