Businesses rally in cross-sector collaboration to support COVID-19 response

02 April 2020 #Uncategorised

While a lot of businesses are enforcing shutdowns or restricting operations, there are some sectors –notably healthcare and pharmaceuticals – that are struggling to keep up with demand.

In order to bridge this gap the SMMT has been putting members in touch with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) who have now set up a database for organisations in urgent need of supply chain resources, to ensure the UK is able to respond to the coronavirus crisis. The database has been made up from information provided by industry, following CILT’s call to action for cross sector collaboration.

The database matches organisations together, so that those who have capacity can help those with an urgent need, such as the NHS and the grocery retail sector, by making staff, vehicles, warehouse space and expertise available. Over 1,800 businesses across the country have already contributed to the database, offering their services and spare capacity to help the national effort.

If you have any or all of the above available, you can add your details to the database by completing this online form. Please can you keep me informed as well so we can keep track of all that is going on and the great work our industry is doing in this difficult time: nbase@smmt.co.uk
