Tell us a bit about your business. When were you founded, where are you based and how many people do you employ?
Founded in 1995, Melett is a trusted aftermarket brand for precision engineered turbochargers and parts. We produce OE quality products to help the turbo aftermarket provide the highest quality repairs.
Based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, we’re proud to offer an extensive range of parts covering the most popular turbo models for car and LCV applications.
What does the business do?
Melett is a trusted supply partner to a variety of businesses from small turbo repair workshops through to large volume and OE turbo remanufacturing facilities. We’re also an approved supplier to several vehicle manufacturers for their own aftermarket turbo programmes.
We supply an expansive range of individual turbo parts, upgrade parts and repair kits. This includes core assemblies, turbine and compressor wheels, bearing housings, seal plates, heat shields, electronic & pneumatic actuators, variable nozzle ring assemblies, and a large selection of oversize journal bearings and piston rings.
For situations where a repair solution is not possible, Melett turbochargers offer turbo specialists a premium brand alternative to an OE unit.
Our range of turbochargers are designed in-house and are subject to rigorous engineering and testing processes to ensure they match OE specifications.
We take great pride in being able to fulfil over 95% of orders from stock. We currently deliver to more than 100 countries worldwide, with most shipments arriving in 1-5 days.
How is business? What’s the outlook for the year ahead?
Every business has been affected in one way or another by Covid-19. Many aftermarket companies have been severely impacted, and we have all had to adapt to protect our employees while safeguarding the future of our businesses.
After the initial impact, business has increased month-on-month and has remained stable over the last few months. During the restrictions we made every effort to support our customers who played a vital role in keeping essential vehicles on the road.
Now, as normality returns and more vehicles take to the roads, we are seeing increasing demand for repairs and maintenance. Thanks to the growth in popularity of turbocharged engines over recent years – both petrol and diesel – we are confident that business will continue in line with our expectations.
What are the big issues or technological advances that fill you with positivity?
The rise in home deliveries caused by the boom in online shopping means that there are now more vans on the road than ever before – approximately 4.6 million at present.
To capitalise on the repair and replacement opportunities that this presents, we are dedicated to growing our range of turbochargers for the light commercial vehicle parc.
We recently launched an additional eight turbochargers covering a range of popular van makes and models, including Ford Transit, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Partner, Citroën Berlingo, and Volkswagen Crafter.
