I’ve dedicated my entire career to this industry and this must be, by a clear mile, the most challenging year in my experience. As of the time of writing, we don’t yet know what we will face in the new year, be it Covid, or Brexit. But despite everything, we will find a way through it all, much like we’ve been able to do throughout this undoubtedly difficult and unpredictable year.
As this year draws to a close, I would also like to thank and congratulate those working in the commercial vehicle sector for their resilience and strength. Our industry has rallied to support key workers, keep the vulnerable safe and maintain essential services to keep the country going.
As we say goodbye to 2020, I’d also like to say goodbye to a great industry colleague: after an incredible 47 and a half years in the transport sector and more than 42 years with Thermo King, Joe Grealy heads off into well-earned retirement. Joe sat for many years on our Commercial Vehicle Group and brought huge knowledge and insight into the refrigerated sector, as well as always showing support and keeping involved in SMMT’s work. He wishes us all a degree of normality and sustainable market recovery in 2021 – let’s hope so.
Best wishes to him and to you all. Merry Christmas everyone – and see you on the other side for hopefully a Happier New Year.
And lastly here’s to you, a sector that steps up to the challenge and doesn’t give up.
