Van market battling supply shortages to catch up to 2019

05 August 2021 #Uncategorised

Van registration figures published today show a -14.8% decline on last year, and a more moderate -4.0% decline on a pre-pandemic five-year average. This month has seen the sector affected by supply shortages – notably of semiconductors – but the overall outlook remains positive for the van market.

In light of the challenges, SMMT has today slightly decreased our forecast for the year, with the current outlook now anticipating 363,880 new van registrations by end of the year. Given the shift to home-deliveries, strength of construction sector and as the economy opens up further, we expect the market to end the year almost back to 2019 levels.

Fleet renewal continues to be at the top of the agenda for our growing sector, and one of the main reasons many of us are looking forward to the CV Show 2021 at the end of this month. A chance to learn about the latest innovations and to network with other industry leaders, this year’s Show is set to be an unmissable event.
