Tip-Ex & Tank-Ex 2021: Preview

Tip-Ex & Tank-Ex is the UK’s only national event for the bulk haulage tipping, tanker and bulk liquid transportation sectors and returns this autumn after a two-year absence.

This year’s show, which takes place at the Harrogate Convention Centre from 30 September to 2 October, offers visitors the perfect opportunity to browse the latest vehicles and technology as well as talk directly with manufacturers.

The free event features four inside exhibition halls, outside displays, a three-day Knowledge Zone conference programme, a new Transport Managers conference, as well as a dedicated drivers day.

Truck manufacturers will be there with their latest models as well as bodybuilders, tanker suppliers, tipper bodybuilders, tipping gear manufacturers and others.


Volvo Trucks is expected to promote its FH as well as its toughest ever construction truck – the new FMX.

This is the third version of the Volvo FMX and it features an entirely new cab, higher payloads and innovative safety features.

With increased front axle loads of up to 20 tonnes and a 38-tonne bogie, it is built for the most demanding assignments even on very rough terrain.

The new Volvo FMX is designed for future electric drivelines and certified for the use of HVO, a fossil-free alternative to diesel.

Helena Alsiö, Vice President for the FM and FMX product line at Volvo Trucks said: “The new Volvo FMX is designed to deliver a superior combination of agility and durability.

“Apart from the sturdy design, the new cab with upright A-pillars provides more space and improved visibility. It’s also easier to get in and out.”

The team on Iveco’s stand will be talking about its S-Way tipper with the 12.9-litre Cursor 13, producing 570hp and 2,500Nm via the automated 12-speed Hi-Tronix transmission with Hi-Cruise GPS predictive drive.

Meanwhile, MAN is keen to promote its New Generation TGS tipper, powered by the D26 Euro6D compliant 12.4-litre ‘straight-six’ engine, which generates 510 hp and drives both rear axles via MAN’s TipMatic 12-speed automatic transmission.

VOL-TAR is showcasing its volumetric asphalt mixer truck at the show which the company believes can cut costs and greatly reduce the environmental impact for both the operator and the client by drastically reducing wastage.

The company’s Renault C430 patented mixer truck will be on its stand, where the VOL-TAR team will give demonstrations on how it creates asphalt from recycled road planings.

The truck is designed to produce hot mix on site for use across a wide range of works and operates a computerised system allowing the operator to pour aggregates into individual bins.

By recycling old asphalt the mixer truck can also reduce the amount of new oil needed in the construction process and cut the number of trips to landfill sites.

Wilcox will be marketing its Wilcosteel tipper body which is built entirely from Hardox 450 steel with a deck thickness of 4mm, while workshop equipment suppliers will also be prominent, as well as camera, telematics, walking floor and hydraulic tipping gear providers.


Products on display from Maha will include its MBT 7250 Eurosystem, commercial brake tester, as well as its MLT 3000 headlight tester and column lifts.

Swedish family-owned firm Hydroscand is also presenting a range of hydraulic and industrial hoses, as well as fittings and fluid transfer solutions.

Jost, the producer and supplier of commercial vehicle components, is exhibiting a range of products including its KKS, launched this year across Europe.

This is a new automatic coupling system which enables the driver to couple and uncouple a semi-trailer via remote control, automatically, safely and quickly.

It will also demonstrate the Jost Modul E-Drive, its new electronic landing gear and also part of the KKS system.

This intelligent device lowers the landing legs using a button, providing fleets with an alternative, safer and time-saving product compared to the traditionally manual process.

Also on display will be the Edbro CS Ultra cylinder, developed specifically for 44-50T GVW’s to provide a light but strong cylinder solution and Axle DCA Airmaster, which the company says is the world’s only axle that stores compressed air for the brakes and air suspension in the axle housing.


Haulage insurance company Hazelton Mountford will demonstrate its recently launched portal, which is designed to help hauliers get the insurance and claims information they need, quickly and clearly.

It offers clients instant online access to their claims with full transparency of up-to-date activity on each claim, including progress reports direct from its in-house claims handlers.

The Aquarius IT team will be demonstrating its ClockWatcher Elite software, which provides processes, manages, analyses and reports on all aspects of driver and vehicle data.

ClockWatcher Elite allows operators, using one source, one dashboard and one log-in, to monitor and manage tachograph data, driver behaviour, vehicle defects, remote downloading, PODs, driver debriefs, employee’s time and attendance, and comes with an electronic Document Management system.

It also integrates with the company’s latest Asset Maintenance portal, which uses a range of features to help operators manage company assets requiring periodic maintenance or inspection, from vehicles to plant equipment and machinery.

Both ClockWatcher Elite’s integrated Tachograph Analysis software and Asset Maintenance portal are accredited by the DVSA for the Earned Recognition Scheme.
