DWP & Sons has ordered seven refrigerated trailers with a telematics system that ensures complete cold chain visibility for its deliveries across Europe and Asia.
The TrailerConnect units, manufactured by Schmitz Cargobull, join a 27-strong fleet that is exclusively Schmitz Cargobull, made up of 20 reefers, four Euroliners and three box trailers, which transport fresh and frozen produce.
The new trailer’s telematics will enable DWP & Sons to monitor all variables on each trailer from a single dashboard, including the internal temperature, tyre condition and door security, with the system sending SMS or email alerts in case of security concerns.
DWP & Sons, based in Stoke-on-Trent, expects to use the trailers to be mainly pulled by DAF XF tractor units and be used seven days a week, 365 days a year, remaining in operation for four years.
Currently, two of DWP & Sons’ trailers are being used to advertise Stoke-on-Trent’s cultural and heritage attractions with liveries designed by the local council, and there are plans for Stoke City FC to wrap the third trailer in its colours.
Phil Houlton, Operations Director at DWP & Sons, said: “We have worked with the Schmitz Cargobull team for many years and they always deliver what we want.
“Their telematics package gives total transparency for us and for our customers. We can see everything from weight, temperature and distance a trailer has covered all in one neat package.
“The trailers we currently have on the fleet are doing a fabulous job and the new ones will be working just as hard.”
