Perth’s McLaughlan Transport is continuing to improve the sustainability of its temperature-controlled trailer fleet with three new fuel-saving Carrier Transicold units.

The Vector HE 19 refrigeration systems join McLaughlan’s fleet of 70 temperature-controlled trailers – delivering a range of items from pharmaceutical products to fruit and veg – with the new units mounted to 13.6-metre Gray & Adams trailers.

Vector HE 19s combine Carrier’s E-Drive all-electric technology with a new multi-speed engine design, delivering fuel savings of up to 30% on the previous generation Vector 1950.

The system’s fully hermetic scroll compressor and economiser provides an additional 50% reduction in refrigerant escape and a 40% increase in refrigeration capacity during pulldown.

Family-owned McLaughlan Transport has also opted for Carrier Transicold’s remote unit monitoring and control system to provide accurate diagnostics and data management.

The new trailers are expected to operate on the fleet for 16 years, clocking up 80,000 miles annually.

McLaughlan is also set to trial Carrier’s new engineless Vector eCool trailer unit that relies on an all-electric fully autonomous system to produce zero carbon dioxide or particulate emissions.

George McLaughlan, Director at McLaughlan Transport, said: “For more than three decades, Carrier has introduced cutting-edge new products that deliver both efficiency and performance to our fleet.

“The Vector HE 19 is no exception, it has proved as reliable as every Carrier product that has come before it – it’s exceptionally quiet, easily serviceable and offers significant fuel savings, which helps with our ongoing sustainability drive.”
