A truck and bus manufacturer is sponsoring three cyclists in Transaid’s Cycle 2022 challenge to travel 310 miles across rural Malawi to raise donations for the international transport development charity.

The nine-day event from 1-9 October will see MAN Truck & Bus UK volunteers average nearly 60 miles per day over five days in temperatures reaching 84°F and above, including an ascent of the 2,080-metre Zomba Plateau mountain.

The MAN team includes Kate Carter, UK Truck Sales; Tom Gosbee, UK TopUsed; and Craig Shannon, Manchester Parts Manager, who will line-up alongside 33 other riders from the transport and logistics industry.

Transaid, founded by Save the Children, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and its patron, HRH The Princess Royal, works in road safety to solve transport challenges and access to health in sub-Saharan Africa.

This includes professional driver training for heavy goods vehicles and passenger services, improved emergency transport services and vehicle maintenance training to internationally recognised standards.

Stefan Thyssen, Managing Director at MAN Truck & Bus UK, said: “I know I speak for the entire MAN Truck & Bus team when I wish our ambassadors, Kate, Tom and Craig the best luck in their once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Over the years the Transaid Charity has delivered countless professional driver training programmes which has led to a more skilled driver fraternity and at the same time opened up access to much needed healthcare across Malawi.”
