Five minutes with Florence Bearman, Head of Fundraising, Transaid

19 May 2022 #Features & Interviews

Why is the CV Show important to you?

Transaid has exhibited at the CV Show for the best part of two decades. As the official charity of the transport and logistics sector, it’s an opportunity for us to connect with so many people from across the industry, all in one place.

To say the CV Show has served us well as an organisation over the years would be an understatement. For our fundraising team, it’s an essential date on the industry calendar. We’re particularly looking forward to this year’s event and making new connections.

What are you highlighting/showcasing at the show this year?

We’ve just launched our latest UK fundraiser and are going to be actively recruiting for individuals and teams to ride Hadrian’s Cycleway, a stunning 157-mile route across a World Heritage Site, this Autumn. All funds raised will support our life-saving work in sub-Saharan Africa, where we are focused on improving road safety and increasing access to healthcare for rural communities.

Our team will also be available to talk to colleagues from across the industry who are looking for support with their Corporate Social Responsibility or Environment, Social and Governance policies. These are increasingly real focal points for businesses, and as an international development organisation representing our sector, we can help in so many ways.

What is your favourite CV Show memory?

One of Transaid colleagues’ most memorable moments is when our patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, attended to the CV Show in 2008 to celebrate our 10th anniversary. She spoke about our work and the importance of supporting Transaid, which connected us with so many more people who hadn’t been involved before.

Plus, The Princess Royal also got to see one of the first new Daily vans that IVECO was donating to support our project in Ghana at the time.

What’s your advice for anyone attending the show for the first time?

There’s a lot to see, and a lot of people to meet, so plan your day ahead so far as you can. But also be sure to connect with people you’ve not met before. The great thing about the CV Show is there are so many organisations exhibiting in one place, and it’s often the new connections you end up speaking to which can result in the most useful conversations of the day.

If you’ve never spoken to Transaid, please drop by our stand. We’d love the opportunity to introduce more people to our work and we’ve got some great examples of how our road safety and healthcare work is helping to solve two of the biggest transport challenges in sub-Saharan Africa.

What are your anticipated highlights for this year?

We’re involved in so many projects currently that it’s honestly hard to choose just one or two highlights, but right up there would be the chance for our team to spend more time connecting with the people who are working on our projects in person rather than remotely, which has been a challenge to building relationships and having maximum impact.
