An Ilford transport firm has acquired an eight-wheeled Mercedes-Benz Econic concrete mixer truck that will deliver to construction sites across London.
Best UK Transport’s new HGV, a 3235 L variant with a 7.7-litre six-cylinder engine, comes with the latest technology including emergency braking technology and pedestrian recognition capability.
The vehicle, fitted with an 8m3 Schwing Stetter drum, produces 354 hp and drives through a 12-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated manual transmission.
It is also equipped with Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking technology, which has a pedestrian recognition capability, and an Electronic Parking Brake that is applied automatically when the engine is switched off.
Meanwhile, the Econic has a deep, panoramic windscreen and a full-height, glazed folding side door that meets the highest five-star Direct Vision Standard rating from Transport for London.
The vehicle was supplied by the Peterborough branch of Dealer Intercounty Truck & Van and is covered by a three-year/160,000 km warranty.
Andrei Balean, Owner and Driver at Best Transport UK, which holds Silver accreditation from the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme, said: “With the addition of a 360-degree camera system this Econic is the safest, most compliant vehicle available, and effectively future-proofs my business against any tightening of regulations that might be coming down the line.
“It’s also great to drive, the low seating position and wide field of vision making the job of negotiating busy city streets much less stressful.”
