With just 12 years to go until the first end of sale deadline for the UK’s predominantly diesel van and sub-26 tonne HGV markets, how we decarbonise these vital sectors will be high on the agenda at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, returning to the NEC Birmingham next week from 18 April to 20 April.
It’s the largest and most comprehensive trade exhibition for the truck and van sector, hosting more than 200 exhibitors and the latest low and zero emission vehicles, with several new models, including a hydrogen powered truck, set to be launched at the event.
Alongside unveilings of the latest emerging technological innovations across the sector, including the latest cutting-edge components, tooling and services, the event will also provide opportunities to connect with key industry experts and decision makers.
With the time to net zero ticking ever closer, the show reaffirms the extent to which manufacturers, suppliers and the aftersales market are stepping up to deliver new products, technologies and services that will decarbonise road transport. However, more must be done to bolster operator confidence to make the transition, most notably the need for massive infrastructural investment in charging and refuelling dedicated to commercial vehicles.
At two live theatre sessions on Tuesday morning, SMMT will be discussing the progress and pitfalls on the path to decarbonisation and we hope to see many of you there.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, we will host a DE&I coffee morning at the SMMT stand in Hall 5 where we will be discussing the first Automotive Diversity and Inclusion Charter, which is already supported by some 24 of the biggest automotive brands operating in the UK, and is open to all companies committed to making positive change. Creating an inclusive, equitable culture is key to driving the diversity of our industry’s workforce, which in turn will be critical to our future success.
