Alexander Dennis has taken on a lease for additional warehouse capacity at its Scarborough bus and coach manufacturing facility.

Located near to the manufacturer’s existing site, the new 104,000 sq ft warehouse will allow the rationalisation of all logistics for the factory, freeing up space to restructure production arrangements and increase capacity to meet growing demand for Alexander Dennis buses and Plaxton coaches.

The improvements in Scarborough are part of a wider programme of investment in Alexander Dennis’s production capabilities in the UK, which include new production lines for the manufacturer’s zero-emission buses at its headquarters in Larbert.

Last month, Alexander Dennis confirmed that it will build a substantial number of Plaxton coaches in 2024.

Stock output will focus on Plaxton Leopard coaches with side-mounted wheelchair lifts and destination equipment to meet PSV Accessibility Regulations.

Built on the Volvo B8R chassis, a choice of I-Shift and automatic transmissions will be offered. All stock will have the upgraded interiors introduced this year with up to 72 next-generation Brusa seats.

Other Plaxton coach models will be built to order subject to demand, continuing the manufacturer’s long-established practice.

John Clougherty, Alexander Dennis Group Operations Director, said: “This is a major step forward for Alexander Dennis. The addition of substantial warehouse capacity in Scarborough is a crucial step in our modernisation journey.

“It mirrors the development activities underway at our sites in Falkirk and Larbert, consolidating site logistics to feed our production facilities on a just-in-time basis, freeing up the space necessary to support our process flow enhancement to drive significant improvements in capacity, quality and efficiency.”
