Tuxford-based Griffins Logistics has taken delivery of 16 new Volvo trucks, citing fuel economy and backup service as key factors behind the order.
Supplied by Hartshorne Group, the 16 units include three Volvo FM 460 Globetrotter 6×2 tractor units, 11 FE 320 6×2 and two FL 250 4×2 curtainsider rigids. They join a 40-strong commercial vehicle fleet both as direct replacements for some older models and as a partial fleet expansion.
The business welcomed its first-ever Volvo in 2021 in the form of a 26-tonne Volvo FE with a mounted Moffett forklift.
All 16 vehicles feature a Euro-6 compliant engine, with the FMs and the FEs also featuring an automated I-Shift transmission. This contributes greatly to the fuel economy by constantly evaluating information regarding speed, weight, road grade and torque demand to apply precision to every shift.
The Volvo FM tractor units also have Globetrotter cabs, kitted out with a Drive++ package that includes dual armrests, additional storage and a leather steering wheel.
The new trucks will slot into the Griffins Logistics pallet distribution operations, primarily servicing local deliveries. The tractor units will also operate overnight, running double-deck trailers to and from distribution hubs to collect the next day’s deliveries.
